Welcome to the Rockets Class

At Seven Stars Primary school we follow The Early Years Foundation Stage 2021 (EYFS). The curriculum focuses on the development of the whole child; their interests, styles of learning and the environment, both physical and emotional. As a school we seek to ensure that The Early Years Foundation Stage 2021 provides: • Quality and consistentency, so that all children make good progress and no child gets left behind.

• A secure foundation through individualised planning to support the needs of each and every individual child, regularly reviewing what they have learned and what the children’s next steps are.

• Working in partnership with parents and/or carers and other early years professionals.

• Guaranteeing equal opportunities for all children, ensuring that every child is included and supported. The EYFS is organised into three ‘Prime Areas’: a) Communication and Language, b) Physical Development, c) Personal, social and emotional development. These are supported by ‘Specific Areas’, which include: a) Literacy, b) Mathematics, c) Understanding the World and d) Expressive Arts and Design.

Additionally, we have developed a curriculum that is both engaging and challenging for all. We ensure all aspects of our curriculum are scaffolded by the three characteristics of effective teaching and learning which are playing and exploring, active learning and creating and thinking critically.

Reception

Reading & Phonics

We encourage children to read each night at home, even if it is only a few pages. This encourages children to reflect on what they have read. Even if they read the whole book in a couple of nights, it is important to revisit it a number of times throughout the week, as children often forget or are even able to make up a different story each time.

The link below 'Sharing the book' shows a selection of questions which you can ask your child when sharing their book with them, particularly when they are picture books.

In class we teach phonics for 20 minutes each day. This is an opportunity for children to listen to the sounds the letters make and then use these sounds to build words. We have recently introduced a new Phonic program called Phonics Shed and you can find out more on our Phonics Page:

Phonics

Every time we learn a new sound, we also learn a song and an action to help the children remember it. Please encourage your children to practise these sounds at home.

The Classroom

In Rockets class we have continuous provision which enables us to learn through play throughout the day.  Below are pictures of our creative area, construction area, reading corner, writing corner, sand pit, roleplay area, malleable area and small world.

Topic

We cover lots of wonderful topics and most importantly we learn as much as we can about the world around us.
